Life is Better with a Soundtrack

I recently found out at the first ever Adworkers Music Trivia Night that I’m no music genius. But I will say that there’s rarely a moment where I’m not listening to something. It almost always directly affects my mood and I truly believe that if you aren’t listening to music in some way during all aspects of life you’re not doing it right. Here’s a quick list of songs throughout the week to change otherwise mundane activities.

SUNDAY
Situation: Making your morning coffee.
Listen to: Dewey Gill’s Big Band Show (WMSE 9am-12pm)
Result: Transports you back to better days and slowly aids recovery from Saturday night.

MONDAY
Situation: Car ride to work
Listen to: Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe (windows closed)
Result: Guilt-free euphoria to start your week. You know you like it.

TUESDAY
Situation: Cooking (preferably Italian)
Listen to: Lou Monte – Lazy Mary
Result: Food tastes better. $2.99 wine ages 15 years.

WEDNESDAY
Situation: Cleaning up the house
Listen to: Sam Cooke – Twisting the Night Away
Result: Broomstick transforms from cleaning device to dancing partner. Think Fred Astaire or maybe something more like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVrWDPi12zE

THURSDAY
Situation: Frantically trying to hit a deadline
Listen to: Tron soundtrack (with headphones)
Result: Best one hour logo design EVER.

FRIDAY
Situation: In the gym
Listen to: Dropkick Murphys – I’m Shipping Up to Boston
Result: Adds ten pounds to your max bench. (Also, someone’s gonna get punched.)

SATURDAY
Situation: Christmas Party
Listen to: Bing Crosby
Result: Happiness.

Now I’m sure many of you will disagree with these selections but that’s fine. Musical taste is subjective. And also, you’re wrong. But whatever music you do listen to whether it’s in the kitchen, in the car or in a commercial – it affects you. It motivates you. It inspires you.

Now go buy some records.
